Grinder Pumps for Wastewater and Sewage Applications in Florida
Grinder pumps are used to prevent blockages in wastewater systems. Solids in wastewater or sewage can sometimes create clogs capable of bringing the system to a sudden halt. Using a grinder pump turns those troublesome solids into a fine slurry that will pass through the system without difficulty.
How does a grinder pump work?
Grinder pumps are equipped with a sensor, either in the pump or attached to the pump's exterior. This sensor monitors the level of wastewater in the tank. Once the tank has filled to a certain, predetermined level, the sensor automatically switches the pump to power up.
When activated, the grinder portion of the pump cuts and grinds any solid waste in the tank, creating a slurry which is then emptied into the septic tank or sewage system. After the tank is emptied, the pump shuts off again, until the sensor detects that the tank has refilled with wastewater, at which point the process repeats itself.
Grinder pumps are fitted with an alarm panel in order to prevent backup or overflow, should the pump malfunction. If the wastewater in the tank exceeds a specified safe level, the alarm activates, alerting you that action is required.
